Early Life and Education
Quinn was raised in the diverse and inclusive community of Topeka, Kansas. From a young age, Domini was captivated by the vivid colors of the flint hill sunsets. Encouraged by her supportive family, Quinn began experimenting with acrylic paints and photography in preschool, driven by a fascination with the way colors could capture and transform reality. Winning a local photography contest in 3rd grade, and spending four years on the high school yearbook staff, two years as photo and design editor. She developed a successful photography business throughout high school; photographing senior portraits, weddings, and non-profit events.
Domini pursued formal art education at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree; painting focus. There, she honed her technique in both portrait/landscape painting and portrait photography, developing a distinctive style characterized by bold, saturated colors and a playful approach to lighting.
Artistic Style and Influences
Quinn Domini’s work is celebrated for its vibrant use of color and energetic brushwork. In her portraits, Domini combines traditional techniques with a modern twist, often employing vivid hues and abstracted forms to convey the essence of her subjects. Her landscapes, on the other hand, are a riot of color and texture, capturing the natural beauty of the world with a sense of joy and wonder.
Influenced by the likes of Jack Beal, Fritz Scholder, and Daniel Onguene, Domini takes inspiration from their developed sense of color. The emotional depth that resonates with viewers, is drawn from the intimate and candid nature of the photo references. All painted portraits come from photos that are intricately captured with light, composition and energy in mind. Her photo inspiration comes from; Petra Collins, Helen Levitt, and Ashley Armitage.
